As part of February's American Heart Month activities, Mi Manos in Tri-Valley will join thousands of Americans in celebrating National Wear Red Day by Mimi’s Red Dress Event with a Runway Show and Silent Action.  The effort is aimed at raising awareness among local women that heart disease is their #1 health threat.

Join us as we support heart disease research and prevention efforts on WEAR RED DAY on the first Friday in February  and we will also host Mimi’s Red Dress Runway Show and Auction in February, 2010. On this day, women and men across the country will wear red to unite in the national movement to give women a personal and urgent wakeup call about their risk of heart disease.  Everyone can participate by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or by wearing the Red Dress Pin (available at American Heart Association’s www.goredforwomen ).

Mimi’s Red Dress event in honor Jamielynn’s mother Mimi. Some of you know, some may have heard of her journey, for those who don’t know here is her story: A heart-saving story about women and heart disease straight from a survivor Mimi who learned at the age of 50 that one of her arteries in her heart was 99.8 percent blocked and second one more than 50 percent. Never once did she think she was at risk for heart disease, with no history or so she thought...

She was scheduled for a surgery in May of 2000.  She underwent the usual pre-op procedures along with a stress test due to her age.  She passed all the tests & was awaiting her surgery date. Just a few days before that date she had her first heart attack. Shortly following that event she was quickly scheduled for her first stent procedure. 

At 58 she had to have three more stents used including one for the dorsal aorta, your heart’s major artery. Through education & the help of her doctors she has gained the tools & knowledge needed to lead a healthy Heart Strong life.
